Ginger's 6 Month Ped Visit

12-15-09-small-2

Yesterday we took Ginger for her 6 month pediatrician check-up. She technically doesn't turn 6 months til Friday, but a few days early...what's the harm in that?

Mr. Mustard, Ginger, and I picked Paprika up from pre-school and headed over to Chipotle for lunch together. After that, we headed to the pediatrician's office. We planned for traffic...and there was none! So we arrived at the ped's office almost an hour early.

It was a beautiful day, so we hung out on the front porch of the ped's office. Paprika had a great time playing in the front yard of the pediatrician's office. The weather could not have been more perfect...really! If you've got to spend an hour waiting for the pediatrician, spending it outdoors on a 75 degree, sunny and clear day is the way to do it.

When our wait was up, we went inside and got Ginger weighed and measured.

She is:

weight: 17 pounds, 7 oz. (75%)
height: 27.25 inches (90%)
head circumference: 17 inches (75%)

So, she is one long and lean little girl.

We mentioned to the pediatrician how little Ginger sleeps (only about 5 or 6 hours/day total including all naps)...and she checked her ears and told us that Ginger has a horrible ear infection. :-(

I felt awful. She is not fussy, or acting in pain. But apparently it is really bad. And that is probably why she doesn't sleep. She is fine sleeping upright, but as soon as I lay her down, the pressure on her ears causes her to wake up.

Paprika never had an ear infection, so this is new to me. I guess Ginger got it from the colds we've been passing around our house. We go back in a few weeks to the pediatrician for a follow-up.

We got the green light to start introducing solid foods at 6 months, and she got all her vitals checked...everything else is good. I am really grateful for a good pediatrician visit, all things considered!
