Mirror Singing and Big Girl Pants!

It's STILL raining here in Los Angeles. Every day has been just a downpour of rain. It's weird because I remember in Indiana, it would rain a bit, then the sun would come out and it would stop for awhile, then maybe rain the next day (or perhaps that's just my rose-colored memory of the Heartland). Anyway, that's not how it works here! It rains and rains and rains without ever stopping!

So, because of that, we've been doing lots of indoor activities. Southern California is set up to be outdoorsy, so all of the places you would think to let your child run during inclement weather (like the mall) are off-limits because they're all outdoors. Boo-hoo, I know! ;-)

We've been getting creative, and I have been using all of this indoor time to help Paprika potty learn.

I took her to Target tonight and let her pick out her own "big girl pants" and this is what she chose!

Yes, she chose the Toddler Boy Thomas The Train ones- and she had to have them. She was really excited about it all. Nevermind the packages upon packages of pink and girly pants on display...oh no, it had to be these. I find it kinda weird because she has never seen so much as a frame of a Thomas The Train television program or dvd, and yet, she is obsessed with this character! We have one Thomas puzzle, and one Thomas the Train book- and that's it. But, anyway- who am I to argue with a two year old who knows what she wants?

So, we came home, and she was so excited to wear them, that she actually wanted to wear the whole package (all three pairs). One was enough!

Then she went straight to the mirror and sang to herself for over an hour. Singing to herself in the mirror is one of her most favorite activities, and she does it for at least an hour a day. We have a soundtrack of Disney songs (Menken and Ashman songs) that she especially loves to sing.

Her favorite one to sing in front of the mirror is "Reflection," which is from the movie Mulan. It is so precious and heartbreaking to watch her sing this song to herself in the mirror.

She sings:

Who Is That Girl I See

Staring Straight Back At Me?

When Will My Reflection Show

Who I Am Inside?

She has such a huge personality just waiting to jump out of her, so it just fits!
