Sucker!

I am such a sucker for this face...

and this face...

Which is how we ended up at the pet store today, and came home with this:

And, actually, I think I did pretty well because it was also rescue doggie adoption day, and we didn't come home with a dog...even though Lord knows, they were irresistible.

So, instead I got talked into three goldfish.

Of course, there have already been teachable moments...

Like..."Hey! Guess what? Fish can't breathe out of water!"

I have to admit, I kinda bought the fish to move the focus away from the butterfly. Paprika has done so well taking care of this half-winged creature...but he is really so close to the end. And she has no idea.

It is going to break her heart. For real.

So, maybe I bought the fish to soften the blow a little. Supposedly they live 10 years if you take really good care of them! I am hoping for 8 months. ;-)

We had feeder fish that lived forever! Got them when they were tiny things and they grew to about 8 inches big. We gave them to someone who had a pond after we had them for 6 or 7 years, and a few years after we gave them away, they were still alive!
