Breaking Up With Coke!

This girl...

I guess one of my dirty little secrets is that I love Coke!  (The beverage...people!)  I love it - I think about it every day, I live to drink it.  When I was in my early 20s, I drank about 4 liters of Diet Coke/day (not joking).

My dad once said:  Who needs water when you've got Diet Pepsi?  ;-)  So, clearly, I got my pop addiction from my Pop.  ;-)

Anyway - as some of you know - I have not had aspartame (or any artificial sweetener) since 2005.  But when I quit Diet Coke for good, I switched to regular.  And I don't discriminate - I love the bottle, the can, the fountain, and the Mexican....

And many times I have tried to quit - and I have for awhile.  But it's never stuck.  I am literally physically and psychologically addicted.  I don't want tea.  I don't want a glass of wine. I just want a Coke!

I've heard Coke called The Black Death and Liquid Poison and even Sewer Water (that's Mr. M's special name for it)...but do you know what I call it?  Yummy!

Anyhoo- Mr. M and I have a little bet going that I can't quit Coke for a YEAR.  A year?!!!  I am on Day 6 (last Friday was Day 1).  359 DAYS TO GO!

I'm lethargic, my head is pounding, and if I close my eyes, I can imagine everything about it.  But then I open my eyes and poof!  it's not real.

To perk myself up, I've been making Green Juice.  I was saving the fruit for the girls, so this is just veggies and it tastes like bark.  I wanted to pour a packet of sugar into this afterwards (but I didn't).  Do you know what would go really well with this?  That's right...a Coke!  ;-)

This is Paprika yesterday at Swim Team Practice.

Swim team practice...

While she was at practice, the little girls and I explored the park.  First the butterfly garden:

Then down to the pond:

Violet wanted to jump into the water to pet these ducks:

These girls ran me all over the park and I literally wanted to find a vending machine and chug a Coke.  But I did not!  Little victories!  ;-)

Have you tried Kombucha? I haven't drank pop since my teens b/c it made me horribly sick. I'm just now starting to brew my own Kombucha. I'm not sure what to think yet. But it's fizzy! And I've found recipes for root beer Kombucha...

Along with komucha, you could try water kefir. Which you get grains online, it takes a week or so to get the grains going. The water kefir is a great probiotic and you can add your juice to it, use it in smoothies, or even just lemon juice for a lemonade. Perhaps experimenting with different (healthy) drinks will keep your mind off of coke (also my secret addiction I've been off for 3 weeks!)

It would be really good with your homemade juice, add it to smoothies, or I mostly just add lemon to it and make lemonade. I promise I am laughing with you. Okay, maybe you aren't laughing now. This was a funny read though.

I used to be a diet Pepsi addict. It really wasn't that bad as I only had 1 a day (maybe 2 on an especially trying day), but I literally could hardly wait to get to my desk at work in the morning so I could open it...around 6:30AM. I quit it circa 2009 and for the first couple years if I broke down and had one it was like heaven in my mouth. Now, though, I can barely take a sip of it. Too after-taste-y, strong, and even sugary (even though it has the evil stuff in it instead). Hang in there. It will get better...in a couple years. ;)
