Me Plus Pinterest Equals...

Love! ;-)

Last spring one of the other moms at Paprika's preschool introduced me to Pinterest and I was all, Pinter-what?

Then I got hooked.

Then I got Devon hooked on it (for once in my life because she is always so far ahead of me on anything crafty or cool).

Since then, I have had a great time window crafting! ;-)

Then a few weeks ago, I came across a pin I actually wanted to do and could do with very minimal effort (which is my crafting mantra lately).

Paprika has been learning to read, but there are still some words that trip her up because they don't follow regular rules (you can't sound them out). Enter: the need to memorize sight words. Well, just memorizing sight words sounded boring to me until I stumbled upon this idea on Pinterest. It's taken from this blog: First Grader At Last and it was super easy to do.

Basically, all it involves is getting a regular game of Candyland (which I got for $5 at Target). Then, you print out the sight words you want your child to learn, and then you tape them on each card. For the child to advance to the next spot, they have to read the word on the card. I think there are 85 cards in the deck, so that gives you about 85 sight words. My plan is to buy another Candyland game (or two) when Paprika has mastered all these sight words and mix in new cards, since there are about 200 sight words that she needs to learn.

This is the website that I used to print out my sight word list: MrsPerkins.com Easy-peasy!

So, now I am patting myself on the back for my first successful Pinterest project. Paprika loves the game. Ginger loves it, too (we let Paprika read the cards for her). And, it's actually pretty fun to play. Now off to find my next Pinterest score! Ha! ;-)

I love pinterest, although am a newbie. So much stuff I want to do, this included. Great find, and I'm glad you guys are enjoying it. I'm definitely going to borrow this one and implement with our sight words. D is loving learning to read, as much as we are loving watching and participating in his learning.

Hmmm... you've peaked my curiousity. I've always used flashcards with Popper Words.
Over stimulation must not be an issue. Imagine having fun, while mastering something that can be difficult. Love it! Thanks for sharing this new tool.
