Paint Party!

The girls have been painting a lot lately. After the sun goes down, we still have a few hours before night-night time, and I am always looking for things for them to do. One thing they both love to do is paint! So, we've been doing a lot of painting!

Paprika says she wants to grow up to be an artist. I told her that she didn't have to wait to grow up to be an artist. She's an artist right now.

Then, she said, "Well, okay, then when I grow up I will be an art teacher and all the boys and girls will come to my class to learn how to paint!"

Paprika spent the first hour of painting just mixing different shades and seeing what colors she could come up with. She wanted to make lime, she wanted to make turquoise...just stuff like that..and she wanted to mix all the colors with white to make various shades. Then, after about an hour, she painted this mermaid in about a minute because I said, "Will you paint me a mermaid?"

Then, after she painted the mermaid, she painted the most amazing sunset. I have to get a picture of it because it took her about an hour to do it, and she was so thorough and careful. She painted the whole piece of paper orange first (the orange sky) and let it dry. Then she painted a big red sun, a pond, grass around the pond, then a potato farm, peas, a fig tree, pink clouds, etc. I was so impressed with how long and hard she worked on it, and how she knew exactly what she wanted it to be.

Ginger loves painting, too. She made about ten paintings during this session. She said they were all paintings of "Fireworks" - which interestingly enough, is what Paprika used to tell me her paintings were about when she was this age.

Anyway, it was just fun. We are always drawing with crayons and markers, but somehow it's just a little bit more fun to get out the paints and go at it. Even if it is messier, the girls think it's special and love it that much more. Plus, the paint washes out of everything...mostly! ;-)

You are reminding me that I need to get out some paints for my girls. They love it. It can just be messy, hassely . . . but now I am inspired.
