One Month Doc Visit

7-19-09-small-3

Ginger had her 1 month pediatrician visit this morning. She's 10 pounds, 10 oz. (90th percentile) and in the 95th percentile for height. She's 50th percentile for head circumference. This is tracking the same as she was at her last two visits, so that's all good news since the docs like to see babies stay in roughly the same percentile. She's growing up! All in all, a good visit...grateful for that. We talked about the silent reflux. Right now we're managing it without medication, so we'll keep doing that as long as we can keep Ginger comfortable. We don't want to put her on meds unless it's absolutely neccessary and right now things seem okay. :-)

Sunday Stuff

7-18-09-small-3

We are in the middle of just the hottest part of summer. Thank goodness for air conditioning, that's all I'm saying! We spent the day indoors mostly. We did get out for lunch as a family (one of our new Sunday habits) and we drove around to a few Open Houses, since we are always (perpetually?) in the market for a new house. We didn't see anything too great today. Mr. Mustard is reminding me that patience is a virtue (apparently one I don't have)!

Paprika has taken to wearing my shirts as "dresses" and refuses to take off my clothes, even in public. She wore my shirt to bed last night and then out to lunch and out looking at houses today. I snapped this pic of her in my shirt- she looks pretty cute, I think!

Please keep Devon in your prayers. I'll be visiting her later this week and will pass on all well-wishes to her in person. She could sure use some cheering up, so stop by her blog if you get a chance and let her know you're thinking of her!

Date Night and Prayer Request

7-18-09-small-2

Mr. Mustard and I went out on a date tonight! It was awesome! Mr. Mustard's mom watched Paprika for us, and we took Ginger with us out on our date. It's crazy how when Paprika was a baby we thought she was so overwhelming, but now just taking Ginger with us seems like a "quiet evening" out. We went to Sushi Roku and walked around the surrounding shops in Old Town. We flipped through magazines at Barnes and Noble, and window shopped at Tiffany. It was fun!

Meanwhile, Paprika stayed home with Grandma and got some quality one-on-one time with her. They worked on potty training and just hung out and played pretend.

I think it's important to get that one-on-one time as much as possible. When Paprika was a baby, we spent all our time with just her...so I am glad for these times when Mr. Mustard and I get to focus all of our attention on Ginger. That's also one of the benefits of Ginger staying up all night...it's those times when I get to just focus all my attention on just her.

Last, but definitely not least...

For my friends and family who are the praying type, please keep my friend Devon and her family in your prayers. I met Devon one year ago through my pregnancy and infant loss support group, and we have become very close friends. She is currently 21 weeks pregnant with a baby girl, and she has been admitted to the hospital. She will likely remain in the hospital for the rest of her pregnancy. Please pray that Devon will stay pregnant with her baby for many more weeks and months, and that her family will be strong during this very difficult time. Please see her blog for more info, and I will be updating here from time to time as I know more. Sending lots of love to the Mikels family...

Happy One Month!

7-18-09-small-1

Today is Ginger's one month birthday. Happy one month, sweet baby girl! She has spent most of the day snoozing...as seen in this picture taken a few moments ago.

Ginger is the sweetest baby. She loves being held, carried, and sleeping on her mommy's chest. She is very laid back and happy (except right after she's eaten, when she gets fussy from her reflux). I am so grateful that she is part of our family, and I love waking up to her beautiful face every day. She is magical!

In other news, Paprika is potty training! We had success once last night, and once today. :-) This is all very good news, since her preschool requires kids to be potty trained by age three...a date that is rapidly approaching. So, let's keep our fingers crossed that she continues making progress over the next month!

Today we've been hanging out. Mr. Mustard's mom is here from Santa Barbara visiting. I got to sleep in late with Ginger, and am feeling so much more rested. I also got a shower last night- ahhhhhh- and I feel like a whole new person!

Utter Exhaustion!

7-17-09-small-1

So yea, basically, to answer many of your questions, I'm not sleeping more than 3.5 or 4 hours/night. Mr. Mustard goes to bed downstairs at a decent hour each night because he needs to be functional for work, so it's imperative that he gets at least 6 hours of sleep, but preferably 7 or 8 hours/night.

7-17-09-small-3

It's supposed to work out that I can sleep in late with Ginger while Paprika is at morning preschool, but lately Ginger has been waking up at 6am or 8am after sleeping for three or four hours, and then she doesn't fall back asleep until it's time for me to pick Paprika up at preschool. Not exactly perfect timing! ;-)

7-17-09-small-2

I am hoping that this weekend I can catch up on some sleep since Mr. Mustard doesn't have to work this weekend- hopefully he will either stay up late one night with Ginger or get up early with her in the morning.

7-17-09-small-4

I am not complaining. I know that this is life with a newborn, and it's what I signed up for...and I am loving every second of it! But I'm human, too- which I why I am hoping that tomorrow morning I get to sleep in...at least a little bit! :-)
