Such A Snugglebear!

6-22-09-small-1

Today, Mr. Mustard took Paprika "out on adventures" to see Up at the movie theater and out for father/daughter ice cream! Ginger and I stayed at home and snuggled. She's only four days old, and I am not ready to take her out of the house yet!

Mr. Mustard was supposed to take pictures of Paprika on their outing, but I just looked in the camera bag, and he left the camera at home! Doh!

Things are going well here on the homefront. I am continuing to heal...as anyone who has had a baby can tell you, that first week after birth is not when you feel your best! But, I think I'm slowly starting to feel more like myself again...slowly but surely.

Mr. Mustard's mom was here while we were in the hospital and for the first few days we were home with Ginger. It was so nice having her here, and we are so grateful for all she did to help out! She went home yesterday evening, and now we are settling in as a family of four.

It feels a little surreal to be here, with Ginger, after everything we have been through in the past year and a half. We still miss our twin girls, Vivian and Annemarie, and we still think of them often. They are still part of our family, and they still hold a special place in our hearts. We know this is a time to rejoice and focus on our two girls here on Earth, so we may not talk about Vivian and Annemarie as much...but we still love them just as much, and we know that we will see them in Heaven. Although it may not look to the outside like they are our daughters, they very much are...and we still miss them tremendously.

Ginger continues to be such a wonderful baby...she is truly a dream come true. Paprika could not be a better big sister. She has been wonderful- she adores Ginger, and there is not one ounce of jealousy in Paprika's body towards her baby sister. The only time Paprika gets upset is when she can't be near Ginger.

Even so, we are very careful to make sure Paprika feels included and special. She helps with diaper changes, and I let her pick out Ginger's outfit every morning. Paprika loves picking out "pretty dresses" for baby sister. We have also made sure to do lots of stuff that Paprika wants to do...and I think that helps.

One of the only things Paprika can't do is breastfeed/nurse her baby sister. So, she has started improvising by nursing her dolls. She lifts up her dress and latches her dolls onto her bellybutton. The first time we saw her do that it took everything in our power not to burst into laughter. She is so serious about feeding her babies their "mama milkies"- as she calls it.

Anyhoo- that's what's going on here. Life is busy...busy but slow. We are enjoying this "babymoon" period...we know it doesn't last long and we are savoring every second of it.

Three Days Old!

6-21-09-small-2

Just a few pics of Baby Ginger. She is three days old today. It feels like she's been in our family for a lifetime. Love her so much and we're so grateful for her...can't get enough of her!

All Love!

6-20-09-small-1

We've been settling in nicely at home. Ginger fits right in to our family, and Paprika is definitely in love with her baby sister. When we came home, the first thing Paprika said was, "I love her. I am never going to leave her side, ever!"

6-20-09-small-3

Paprika has given her lots and lots of kisses and love. It's safe to say that she adores Ginger, as do we all!

6-20-09-small-6

Ginger is a very mellow, sleepy baby. She is very laid back and is so very different than Paprika was at this age. Paprika was go-go-go, and Ginger likes to kick back and relax!

We are focusing on bonding, feeding, and getting to know our little girl. We are so happy to have her home!

Today is Father's Day...I think Mr. Mustard is pretty pleased with his Father's Day present, even if she did come a few days early!

Ginger came into the world after an intense, natural, and surprising labor! On Wednesday morning, I had the feeling I might be going into labor. We asked Mr. Mustard's mom to come down to Los Angeles just in case. All day long, I felt contractions that were getting more intense. Around 6pm, Mr. Mustard and I decided to go out to dinner to enjoy possiby our last night before Ginger arrived. We made it to the doors of the restaurant when I decided we really needed to go to the hospital instead!

So, we braved rush hour traffic in Los Angeles, and arrived at the hospital around 7:30pm on Wednesday night. My contractions were about 2 minutes apart. They checked me and I was already 4.5 cm dilated! Contractions intensified, and my water broke on its own at the hospital around 1 am. I wanted to let labor go on its own without the aid of pitocin or other drugs, so that's what we did! A few hours later, Ginger Sunshine Urth was born into the hands of Dr. K at 4:15 am on Thursday morning, healthy and perfect in every way!

These pictures were taken a few hours after she was born! She came out clean, like she'd just taken a bath!

We are so grateful for this little girl, and not a moment goes by that we don't look at her with complete happiness for the gift she is to our family. There is much more to say, but we just got home from the hosptial and I would rather snuggle her than write, so this will have to do for now. :-)

Until then, a few more pictures taken at the hospital right after birth!

Let The Sun Shine!

6-16-09-small-3

On Tuesday, after my doctor's appointment, we spent the afternoon at the park. In these pictures, I am 38 weeks, 3 days pregnant with our little baby.

Paprika has been super attached to me these past few weeks. She is so independent, but when I get too far behind (as is known to happen now since I'm not as fast on my feet as I used to be), she runs back to me and wants to jump into my lap.

6-16-09-small-5

I am starting to feel a little bit better, pregnancy-wise. I know the end is in sight. After being pregnant for about a year and a half, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. And the light is calling my name! I am so ready to meet our little baby.

I can't wait to hold this newest one in my arms. Until then, I have a few other loves keeping me company. Mr. Mustard and Paprika are doing a great job of making me laugh and keeping my spirits bright.

6-16-09-small-6

Life is pretty great at the moment. After the hardest year, filled with very dark days and immense sadness, it feels like the sun is starting to shine. It feels warm and good...and we are grateful!
